Foregrounding The Beloved Community – A Co-Enquiry with Karima Kadaoui

Join us for a transformative session as we explore the Tamkeen expereince and humanizing learning process born in Morocco that is co-creating an ecosystem for societal harmony and human flourishing. In this session, we will reflect on how the principles behind Tamkeen may subtly mirror some of the patterns, codes, and potentials that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.envisioned for the Beloved Community—a society built on justice, interconnectedness, and mutual care.

About This Shared Conversation

At the outset of Tamkeen  a powerful question arose: Why does humandevelopment seem stagnant, despite all efforts and political will in Morocco? What if the answer lies not in fixing what’s "lacking," but in communities and society recognising the Beauty they behold and realizing their potential?

Karima Kadaoui, co-founder of Tamkeen Community Foundation, will share her journey through this transformative process, which began within Morocco’s educational system and has since expanded to other areas of society. Tamkeen invites us to consider what it means to grow into a society where every individual has the opportunity to thrive and contribute to the well-being of all—a potential that might even prefigure the vision of a Beloved Community

What We’ll Explore

1. The Vision of Tamkeen

  • Shifting from Deficits to Recognizing Beauty and Potential: Learn how Tamkeen reframes human development, focusing not on what’s missing, but on the immanent potential for good, already present within communities. This shift towards recognizing  potential mirrors wider ideas about nurturing and supporting the collective good.
  • Trusting  Humanity: Discover how the essence of trusting in humanity is key to co-creating societies where cooperation, compassion, and flourishing are at the center.

2. Societal Transformation at Scale

  • From Local to Systemic: Karima will share how Tamkeen has expanded from local neighborhoods to the education system and beyond, sparking a     metamorphosis in human relationships—possibly reflecting some of the seeds, patterns, and shifts once envisioned as necessary for a thriving, inclusive society.
  • Emerging Ecosystems and Governance Model: Explore the profound shifts happening as individuals and institutions learn to nurture human connection, breaking     down barriers and fostering a sense of shared responsibility for our common humanity

3. The Role of Trust and Co-Reflection in Growing a Shared Understanding in CollectiveGrowth

  • Trust in Humanity: In a world of uncertainty, what does it mean to trust in our collective potential? Tamkeen fosters trust during times of crisis, embracing the possibility that, despite challenges, we are all capable of creating change together.
  • Co-Creation in Action: Learn how shared experiences and their co-reflection, help grow shared understandings and enable communities and systems evolve, dissolve hierarchies and harmful distinctions, while creating conditions for mutual  flourishing—showing what is possible when we truly come together.

Why This Matters

Tamkeen is more than a program—it’s a process tha tasks deep questions and creates space for transformation. It invites one toreflect on the possibility of creating societies where all people are valued, and each individual’s potential is nurtured in the spirit of cocreation perhaps even mirroring the foundational ideals of what might oneday evolve into the Beloved Community.

  • A  Humanizing Society: Tamkeen is a mirror where societies and communities can recognize and express their full potential, contributing to a collective sense of well-being, growth. and humanity.
  • Insights for Global Transformation: While initiated in Morocco, the Tamkeen process offers a mirror of systemic change with global implications, particularly for     societies facing challenges related to identity, equity, and interdependence. These lessons may provide us with glimpses of what Dr. King’s vision could look like in action.

Beyond the inherent epistemic humility of the process, she reveals the wondrous realisation that we are the gardener “and” the garden of our social ecosystems learning together to speak the language of the “and”. This very language becoming a moving coordinate of the astrolabe of the wisdom-navigation of the autotelic process of “a humanising society”.
